City of Tiffin named Tree City USA

Award marks the 40th time community has been recognized

TIFFIN, OHIO – April 1, 2021 – The City of Tiffin was named a 2020 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 40th year that Tiffin has received the honor, and joins 237 other Ohio communities recognized with this distinction for 2020.

The Ohio Division of Forestry’s Urban Forestry Assistance Program acts as a guiding hand in helping a community to become qualified as a Tree City USA. The Regional Urban Forester recommends a community to the Arbor Day Foundation for this standing. To achieve the title and the honors, a community must meet four standards:

  • A tree care ordinance
  • An active Tree Commission or forestry department
  • A comprehensive urban forestry program supported by a minimum of $2 per capita
  • An annual Arbor Day proclamation and public observance.

With Tree City USA recognition, Tiffin has demonstrated a commitment to effective urban forest management and doing its part to help address these challenges for Tiffin residents now and in the future.

“Tree City USA communities see the impact an urban forest has in a community first hand,” said Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “The trees being planted and cared for by Tiffin are ensuring that generations to come will enjoy to a better quality of life. Additionally, participation in this program brings residents together and creates a sense of civic pride, whether it’s through volunteer engagement or public education.”

“It is an honor to again have been recognized as a Tree City USA, and even more now that we have now had this distinction 40 times. Thank you to Parks and Recreation Director Bryce Kuhn and the members of our Shade Tree & Beautification Commission to helping us achieve this honor,” said Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz.
