Light may be replaced with two-way stop signs
TIFFIN, Ohio – Feb. 22, 2022 – The traffic signal at Frost Parkway and West Market Street is to be under study for removal beginning March 1, 2022. If removed at the conclusion of the study, the intersection will have stop signs for traffic on Frost Parkway and at the exit from Kiwanis Manor, 7 W. Market St.
The City of Tiffin Traffic Safety Committee determined the light was a candidate for removal based on a Traffic Signal Warrant Study performed by the City Engineer’s Office. Staff at Kiwanis Manor has been informed of the city’s intent to conduct this traffic study.
In addition to improving traffic flow, a goal of the study is to ultimately improve the safety of the intersection by reducing the amount of accidents, specifically rear end collisions, resulting from the operation of the unwarranted traffic signal. The study will consist of the light being placed in flash operation for 90 days. During this 90-day period, the traffic signal will flash “yellow” for eastbound Market Street traffic and “red” for traffic entering the intersection from either Frost Parkway or the Kiwanis Manor. Stop signs will also be installed to control traffic entering the intersection from Frost Parkway or the Kiwanis Manor. Upon the conclusion of the 90-day period, the light will be bagged for an additional 60 days prior to removal. The City of Tiffin Traffic Safety Committee will continuously monitor both traffic flow and safety of the intersection in its altered state of operation for the entire 150-day period. A public comment period will run concurrently.
