Two apprehended on warrants from another Ohio city
TIFFIN, Ohio – Wednesday, May 4, 2022 – Wednesday afternoon, Tiffin Police Department arrested a suspect following a strong-arm robbery at the Hy-Miler convenience store on Sandusky Street in Tiffin. The suspect and another individual were taken into custody on felony warrants from the City of Lorain, Ohio, with charges pending.
At 11:41 a.m., a 911 call was placed advising of a robbery at the convenience store. The suspect was reported to have stolen money and had physically harmed a victim. The victim was taken by personal vehicle to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Eye-witness reports placed the suspect as traveling on foot behind the Denny’s restaurant on Market Street. At 11:47 a.m., officers from Tiffin Police Department and Seneca County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling the area on foot and in vehicles and set up a parameter. Just after noon, Officer Justin Nowak was questioning subjects at Tiffin Motel, and was given consent to enter a room at the motel where a suspect who matched the description from the robbery was found. Officers also found evidence in plain sight that matched tools used in the robbery.
Police arrested Matthew Hrpcha, most recently of Kansas, Ohio, on a felony warrant of grand theft of a motor vehicle from Lorain; and Maya Boyd, of Lorain, also on a felony warrant of grand theft of a motor vehicle from Lorain.
Charges pending for Hrpcha include strong-arm robbery.
Police Chief David Pauly said, “I commend our officers and thank the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism and quick handling of this situation. We were there and had the area surrounded within minutes of the call.”
A search warrant of the room at Tiffin Motel has been issued and officers are searching for evidence and the stolen money as of Wednesday afternoon.
