Project to be completed by the fall
TIFFIN, OHIO – June 28, 2019 – Following a successful project last year, the City of Tiffin is extending the streetscape on East Market and East Perry streets with the majority of funds coming from grant dollars. Currently under construction, the project includes new curbs and sidewalks with stamped concrete and decorative light poles that extend streetscape on East Market Street between Rock Creek Bridge and Circular Street and East Perry Street between Jefferson Street and the Rock Creek Bridge.
To fund the project, the City of Tiffin received a federally funded grant through Ohio Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Program, that provides 80 percent of additional costs up to a maximum amount of $650,000, as well as additional funding through a federal earmark that is to provide $238,011 towards the project. These funds make up more than 85 percent of the total project cost.
Contractor D.L. Smith Concrete & Design, LLC from Norwalk, Ohio, won the contract bid of $942,617.10. Construction is expected to be complete in late summer or early fall.
City Engineer Matt Watson commented: “These funds have made it possible to not only improve pedestrian access, but also beautify one of our primary corridors within our city.”
Mayor Aaron Montz was happy to see the project come together: “We are always looking for ways to maximize our spending, and certainly we can’t thank ODOT enough for this grant.”
