TIFFIN, Ohio – Residents in Tiffin with gravel parking areas in the public right of way in front of their residence are encouraged to request removal of the gravel and replanting with grass through the Public Works Department between now and Jan. 31, 2025. Restorations will occur this spring.
The purpose of this program is three-fold:
- Protect public infrastructure in the right of way. Prolonged parking on these areas may cause damage to street trees, sewer drains, sidewalks, and roadway edges over time. Tiffin wants to protect the infrastructure instead of expending time and resources on avoidable, premature maintenance failures.
- Spread the message that these gravel parking areas are NOT allowed. Off-street gravel parking in the right of way is not allowed, but it is still common in some neighborhoods. The City aims to remove these parking areas on a voluntary basis through this program, helping turn back the clock on a harmful and unsightly past trend.
- Ensure that cost is not a deterrent for residents who seek this restoration. Tiffin is seeking residents who welcome the improvement and understand it to be permanent. Not everyone can afford the excavation work necessary to restore these areas, but the benefit of mutual cooperation to protect municipal assets is a win- win. A portion of this program is funded through the Inflation Reduction Act grant funding for the restoration of our tree lawns and protection of existing trees.
Tiffin Public Works is offering this service City-wide, subject to crew and equipment availability, with priority based on benefit to surrounding infrastructure. For more information or to request this service, contact the Public Works Department at 419-448-5430.
