Project receives 0% loan for 5 years
TIFFIN, Ohio – Jan. 25, 2023 – Construction season will soon be on us, and the City of Tiffin Engineer's Office is prepping for another busy year, aided by funding from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC).
The Engineer’s Office submitted an application for a $500,000, five-year, 0% interest loan from the OPWC to maximize the amount to be spent for the 2023 Pavement Repair Program. By funding this year’s project with a loan, the city is able to complete the planned paving list while also completing other infrastructure projects this summer, such as the Ella Street River Bridge and the City's Urban Paving Project. The estimated cost of the 2023 Pavement Repair Program is $650,000.
OPWC’s maximum loan amount is $500,000. Additionally, the term of loan ensures that it will be paid off before the current term of the Road & Bridge Levy expires.
Streets to be paved include:
- Ann Street, from Circular Street to Main Street
- East Davis Street, from Sandusky Street to Elwood Street
- Elm Avenue, north of Seneca Street
- Fourth Avenue from Maule Road to Park Avenue
- All of Greenfield Street
- All of Industrial Avenue
- River Road North from North of Tiffin Developmental Center
- Sycamore Street from Ella Street to Monroe Street
- All of Westwood Drive
In addition to this list, the 2023 Urban Paving Project is also paving West Market Street between Elmer Street and Sandusky Street and South Washington Street between Sycamore Street & Glenn Street. More than $1.1 million in investment will be made toward resurfacing in 2023.
Tiffin Mayor Dawn Iannantuono said, “I applaud the efforts of City Engineer Matt Watson and his staff for ensuring that we are continuing to maintain our roads in 2023 while still being able to fund projects such as the Ella Street Bridge replacement.”
The OPWC loan funds are to be available July 1, and the bidding for the construction contract is scheduled to begin in May. Construction should take place late summer and fall of 2023.
