Aqua’s Sentinel tower to be out of service for approximately three months
TIFFIN, OH–Aqua is announcing plans to renovate their 1,000,000-gallon water tower later this month. The $1.01 million project will involve draining, sandblasting, minor repairs and repainting both the interior and exterior of the tower over the next few months. The tower is located near the intersection of Melmore Street and Old Attica Road and overlooks the Sentinel Vocational Center.
“It's important that we regularly maintain and repaint our water towers to stay ahead of corrosion and get longer service from them,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Scott Ballenger. “This tower is a critical part of our system, not only does it provide storage for a million gallons of treated water, but it helps regulate pressure levels in the southern part of the Tiffin system.”
Crews will start by draining the tank and striping old coatings and corrosion. Then they will undertake any needed repairs using hand tools and paint will be reapplied. Work is expected to be conducted Monday through Friday between 7:00am and 7:00pm and be complete by the end of October. Plans have been made to avoid noisy activities during early morning hours.
The quality of the water will not be affected and will continue to meet all federal and state water quality standards. Customers will not notice any changes in their water during the project, though some pressure variations are possible.
American Suncraft Painting Company of Medway Ohio was selected to perform the specialized work. Ballenger said that the $1,000,000 project is just part of the $4.4 million that Aqua will invest locally in Tiffin and $65 million across the company’s 36 Ohio systems in 2023.
