Seneca County General Health District will begin placing mosquito traps throughout the county next week in an effort to identify and test local mosquito populations for potential disease.

The traps will be placed in the cities of Tiffin and Fostoria, as well as several townships. The effort is part of the Mosquito Control Grant Program, which began in 2016 and awards local health districts funding to help implement mosquito control measures.

A vector control technician will be setting the traps and collecting mosquitos throughout the summer. The mosquitos will be frozen and shipped to the Ohio Department of Health for testing, and the data will be used to understand and reduce the risks of mosquito-borne diseases.
Traps will be clearly marked as property of Seneca County General Health District. If a trap is found, please do not tamper with it in any way. The traps hold live mosquitos and can be sensitive to damage. Traps will only be in a specific location for 24 to 48 hours.

If you wish to give permission for mosquito traps to be placed on your property, please email [email protected].
