City Council May Appoint Candidate During Regular Meeting Aug. 1

As of Friday afternoon, one candidate has submitted their self-nomination to fill the Third Ward Councilmember seat, which became vacant after the election of Dawn Iannantuono as mayor.

Qualified electors living in the Third Ward were to submit their self-nominations by July 29, and Council planned to speak to nominees and then vote during the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 in City Council Chambers at Tiffin City Hall, 51 E. Market St.

As of the deadline, the only candidate to submit their self-nomination is Tiffin resident Kevin Roessner, who works as an IT Network and Security Engineer at ICP in Tiffin. Roessner’s resume and cover letter has been submitted to Council members.

The Third Ward Council seat is one of three seats that recently became vacant. Iannantuono filed for the seat in the 2019 election as a non-partisan in Tiffin’s Open Primary election system, and by Charter, the position will be filled by Tiffin City Council.

July 26, members of the Seneca County Democratic Central Committee voted to accept the nomination of Cheyane Thacker to serve the open At-Large Councilmember seat, which had been held by Ben Gillig. Thacker is to be sworn in prior to the Council Meeting on Aug. 1.

The Republican Central Committee is to meet Monday prior to the Council meeting to fill another open At-Large Councilmember seat that was held by Zack Perkins. If a candidate is appointed during that meeting, that individual may be sworn in before the Council meeting as well.
