Press Release via OSS Solid Waste District

The Ottawa Sandusky Seneca Solid Waste District’s Competitive Funding Grant (CFG) Program is now accepting applications for their second round of funding for 2024. The Competitive Funding Grant was created to provide funding to local governments, educational institutions and non-profit organizations for solid waste programs. The District cannot, by law, fund any privately owned business.

The District provides a specified amount of money in the budget each year for the Competitive Funding Program as approved by the OSS Board of Directors. For 2024, the total budgeted amount was $100,000 for the CFG, broken into two time frames, at $50,000 each round, with a maximum of $10,000 allowed per grant application. Applicants are required to include a minimum of 25 percent match. This means that 25 percent of the total cost for the project will be provided by the entity applying for the grant. Funding applications are awarded in two equal rounds; once in January and again in June. The District has a committee who reviews the grants and makes their recommendations to the OSS Board of Directors. The period for submitting grant applications for the second round of funding opens June 1st and closes on June 30th.

The CFG program aims to strengthen a circular economy by promoting the recovery and regeneration of materials, reducing waste, and improving the sustainability of resources. This approach encourages efficient and environmentally friendly production and consumption, in contrast to the traditional linear economy. The mission of the Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca Joint Solid Waste Management District is to ensure quality waste stream management for its residents and to foster long term positive solid waste habits including recycling, reduction, reusing and buying of recycled products.
