Kahler has served since 2024

TIFFIN, Ohio – Jan. 21, 2024 – John Kahler has announced his resignation from Tiffin City Council effective today. Kahler was elected Councilmember At-Large since 2024 and chairs the Law and Community Planning Committee.

Kahler said that after more than a year of research and opinions from both the Ohio Supreme Court Board of Professional Responsibility and the Ohio Ethics Commission, it was determined it would be best to resign his position than risk any conflicts of interest with his private law practice.

“I have so enjoyed my time on City Council and the relationships that I have formed with all of the members. However, criminal defense has been my passion and profession for 28 years. I cannot simply give it up.

“I wish all my fellow Council members luck in the future and hope to continue my friendship with everyone I have served with over the past year.”

Kahler’s seat will be filled by an appointment of Tiffin City Council. Details of that process will be determined at a future meeting.

Kahler is a 6th generation resident of Tiffin. He is a 1987 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School, a 1991 graduate of Miami University, and a 1996 graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School. While this was his first time he had served public office, Kahler had experience as president of the Seneca County Bar Association, a member and president of the Bridges Academy Board, an officer of the Tiffin Elks Club and a member of the Ritz Players Board. He and his wife, Jennifer, together with their daughter, Sagan, own and operate Kahler & Kahler Law, LLC.

Mayor Lee Wilkinson said, “John Kahler has been a dedicated and valued member of City Council whose wisdom, thoughtful approach, and commitment to the community have made a lasting impact. While his resignation is a loss for our team, I respect his decision to prioritize transparency and integrity. On behalf of the City of Tiffin, I thank John for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

Council President Bridget Boyle said, “I have enjoyed working with John and I believe he has brought a unique perspective to City Council. While it is sad to see him go, I completely understand his decision and hope him the best in his private practice.”
