Tiffin, OH – 07/17/2024 — The Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division proudly announces the receipt of a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant totaling $265,050.00. This grant is specifically allocated for the purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), essential equipment that will replace outdated units more than 10 years old.

The SCBA units are crucial for the safety of firefighters during hazardous situations, providing breathable air in environments compromised by smoke, toxic fumes, or other respiratory hazards. With this funding, the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division plans to acquire up to 30 new SCBA units, ensuring all frontline personnel have access to reliable and modern equipment.

"This grant is a significant investment in the safety and operational capacity of our fire department," said Rob Chappell, Fire Chief of the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division. "It will allow us to retire older equipment that has served us well but is now reaching the end of its effective lifespan. These new SCBA units will not only enhance firefighter safety but also improve our ability to respond effectively to emergencies in our community."

The FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, supports fire departments nationwide in enhancing their capabilities and readiness. By securing this competitive grant, the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division exemplifies its commitment to continuous improvement and ensuring the highest standards of emergency response for the residents of Tiffin.

"We are grateful for the federal government's support through this grant, which reflects their dedication to bolstering local emergency services," Chief Chappell added. "This funding will have a direct and positive impact on our ability to protect lives and property in Tiffin."
