Event to honor late firefighter/paramedic Sean Tyler
TIFFIN, Ohio – May 4, 2023–Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division will be hosting
an open house 1-4 p.m. May 21 at Fire Station No. 1, 53 S. Monroe St.
The public is invited to stop in and tour the station, take photos in the
vehicles and visit with the firefighter/paramedics.
The theme for EMS Week 2023 is “Where Emergency Care Begins.” To
further that message, firefighter/EMTs will be available to teach Hands
Only CPR. Hands Only CPR can be taught in about 10 minutes and is a
lifesaving skill. Those that participate in learning will be given a gift
certificate for an ice cream cone courtesy of Big Mike’s.
Staff will also provide blood pressure screenings and answer EMS
related questions, and hand out giveaways for kids.
TFRD will be dedicating EMS Week 2023 by honoring
Firefighter/Paramedic Sean Tyler, who served on the with the department
from 2007 to 2019, and also worked an as a registered nurse in the
emergency rooms at Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital and Mercy Health –
Willard Hospital. In June 2022, Tyler passed away from occupational-related cancer.
Deputy Chief Mike Homan recalled his time serving alongside Tyler: “Sean was a gift from God, who gave him
a skill set and personality second to none, who could bring a smile to a patient’s face during their worst
moments. We hope that the public will help us honor Sean, who will be forever remembered for his
dedication to his family, community, brother and sister firefighters and nurses, and his legacy during this time
as EMS is Where Emergency Care Begins.”
