Plan will improve traffic flow, add parking

TIFFIN, Ohio – August 2, 2024 – In order to promote safety and improve traffic flows, the City of Tiffin is announcing that North Sandusky Street between Miami Street and Hall Street will be restriped to reduce the street to two-lanes of traffic. The change will create turn lanes and dedicated parking along Sandusky Street.

The decision to restripe these roads came from discussions by the City Engineer and Public Works with coordination of the City of Tiffin Traffic Safety Committee. Of particular note is the dedicated right turn lanes on Sandusky Street at Hudson Street. The implementation of these turn lanes requires thru traffic to utilize the center lanes within this four-lane section of roadway, ultimately improving the intersection's safety.

Mayor Lee Wilkinson praised the decision, saying “The upcoming road striping project on North Sandusky Street is a significant step toward enhancing safety for both drivers and pedestrians.  I have the utmost confidence in our city engineering department and the excellent work they do to continuously improve our city’s infrastructure. Their dedication and expertise are instrumental in making Tiffin a safer and more convenient place for us all.”

These changes are also being implemented now in preparation for the North Sandusky Street Project, which proposes to fully reconstruct North Sandusky Street between Hall Street and Tomb Street, resurface North Sandusky Street between Tomb Street and the city’s northerly corporation limits and improve access management and signalization within the Six’s Corners intersection. Construction expected to begin in 2026.

Restriping of North Sandusky Street will most likely occur in the fall.
