Effective January 1, 2024, the City of Tiffin has instituted an ordinance requiring general contractors to register with the city. This process has been established to insure that the City collects all income taxes due under city law and allows City Administration to maintain a list of contractors in the event a citizen has a complaint regarding work performed.
Before starting work in the City of Tiffin, contractors are to register with the City Administrator via an online form (paper forms are available upon request). There is a $25 fee to register, and registration should be renewed annually to perform work in the City of Tiffin. (There are no fees for renewing a registration unless a contractor fails to renew their registration by Jan. 31 of the following year.)
A contractor includes a person, firm, corporation, limited liability company, or other entity that performs work to maintain, repair, remodel, construct, demolish, alter, or otherwise improve any land, building, or other structure for hire within the City of Tiffin. Registration is required only for those 18 and older.
By ordinance, any person, firm, corporation, limited liability company, or other entity that perform services as a contractor without registering with the City Administrator shall be guilty of a minor misdemeanor. Each day the violation continues shall be determined to be a separate offense.
